Grab a hot coffee or tea at the Broadway Bakery and begin your day at Hot Springs State Park, renowned for its mineral-rich hot springs flowing at a constant 135°F. Enjoy a complimentary soak at the State Bath House, where the water is maintained at a therapeutic 104°F. Explore the park's 6.2 miles of accessible trails, cable bridge and don't miss the Rainbow Terraces and the resident bison herd. Take lots of photos!
After a yummy lunch at 7 Lazy S Cafe, don’t miss the Wyoming Dinosaur Center, home to over 50 mounted skeletons, including a 106-foot Supersaurus. The center offers tours of nearby dig sites, providing a hands-on paleontological experience.
Dinner just a few blocks away at the One-Eyed Buffalo, then take a drive through Wind River Canyon, a designated Wyoming Scenic Byway. The route offers breathtaking views of towering canyon walls and the Wind River.
After your drive through the canyon, come back and relax on our patio with your favorite evening beverage and enjoy the cool evening air and possibly a visit from our local deer family.
Start the day with a traditional western breakfast at the Black Bear Cafe, then head out and explore the Legend Rock Petroglyph Site, located about 30 miles from Thermopolis. Visitors will step back in time to A.D. 500-1700. Well-preserved prehistoric and American Indian etchings of animals and humans are located along Cottonwood Creek. The site is maintained by agents of Hot Springs State Park. This site features over 300 petroglyphs dating back thousands of years, offering a glimpse into ancient Native American culture.
Alternate adventure: Book a full-day or half-day guided fly-fishing or float trip along the BigHorn River with Wind River Canyon guided tours.
Alternate adventure 2: Grab a boxed lunch at your favorite restaurant and head south 34 miles to Take a swim in the Wind River Reservoir at the designated beach in Boysen State Park in Shoshoni.
Lunch at the One-Eyed Buffalo, then a visit the Hot Springs County Museum & Cultural Center to delve into the area's pioneer history. The museum houses artifacts from the late 1800s to early 1900s, including exhibits on local figures like western movie actor Tim McCoy.
Evening: Stroll Through Downtown Thermopolis
For dinner, grab a hot juicy burger, ice cream and a round of miniature golf at Dairy Land. Then take a leisurely walk through the Downtown Thermopolis Historic District, where buildings from the early 20th century line the streets. Enjoy the small-town charm. Head back to the Elk Antler Inn for some foosball, darts or chess in the game room.
Morning: On your way out of town, stop at Audra’s Copper Coo for a delicious hot coffee and pastry to go.
